This course will explain the concepts of DataStage Enterprise Edition, its architecture and how to apply this to 'real life' scenarios in a business case-study in which you'll solve business problems. We will begin by looking at the big picture and discuss why businesses need ETL tools and where DataStage fits in the product set.
Once we've talked about the very basic architecture of DataStage, we'll investigate a business case-study, learn about a company called GlobalCo, (a fictitious hardware company) and its business and technical needs. We'll then go about solving this company's problems with DataStage in a guided simulation. In a practice environment, you'll configure a DataStage Job.
Using the DataStage clients, you'll log onto the DataStage server, create a Project, import meta data, and create a DataStage Job. You'll then compile and run the Job and look at the logs. After validating that your Job will run on a single node in an SMP environment, you'll then parallelize and partition the data to be able to run on multiple nodes simultaneously in an MPP, Cluster, or even a Grid environment.
Note: This is a self-paced online course in which the Guided Tour Product Simulation requires no installations: Everything is through your IE 5.0+ browser. Please DO NOT make travel arrangements for this course. After you receive confirmation that you are registered, just follow the instructions to access the course.
This browser-based product simulation let's you "learn-by-doing" in a case-study scenario in the Guided Tour Product Simulation - no installations needed just a browser and a passion to learn.
By the end of this training you'll have a better understanding of DataStage, its navigation, its terminology, an overview of its architecture, and a better understanding of how it can be implemented.

Forkunnskaper
You should have the following:
- familiarity with data integration terminology and traditional ETL tools
- a working relationship with data integration team members at your company including the DataBase Administrator
- some previous experience using an ETL tool
- some programming experience would be helpful but is not necessary and
- a high level familiarity with SQL
Mål
By the end of this training you'll have an understanding of DataStage terminology, how to create a simple DataStage Job, an overview of DataStage architecture, and a solid understanding of how DataStage compares to competing ETL tools.
- Create a DataStage Job that can be used again and again in the future to extract from and load to different sources and targets without changing its design
- Describe the ways that DataStage provides better performance, scalability, and flexibility when compared to other ETL tools
- Discuss the overall architecture of DataStage Enterprise Edition. Solve a case-study business problem using DataStage EE
- Create a global variable that enables DataStage to point to different configuration files at runtime so that your Job will run on SMP, MPP, Cluster, or Grid environments
- Create local variables that sort your data and provide the constraints that support business decisions to load it into a variety of targets
