Note: This is a self-paced online course in which the Guided Tour Product Simulation requires no installations: Everything is through your IE 5.0+ browser. Please DO NOT make travel arrangements for this course. After you receive confirmation that you are registered, just follow the instructions to access the course.
This browser-based product simulation will put you in charge of the configuration process and require that you interact with UNIX, DataStage, a Text editor, and DataStage environments within the tutorial's 'Guided Tour simulation' environment - no installations needed just a browser and a passion to learn.
By the end of this training you'll have a better understanding of DataStage and its configuration, terminology, and a better understanding of how it can be implemented with ODBC.
You can learn more about the FlexLearning library:

This course will put you in charge of the configuration process and require that you interact with UNIX, DataStage, a Text editor, and DataStage environments within the tutorial's 'Guided Tour simulation' environment. You will learn by doing and benefit from expert instruction as you go. You will not be interacting with software products or tools installed on your machine but instead will interact with simulated products only within the tutorial and within your IE session. You'll create an ODBC Data Source to connect DataStage on UNIX to an Oracle database. We begin by discussing the concepts. Then we'll continue by opening up a UNIX terminal's command window, logging on, and locating the DataStage Installation direcoty.
Next, we'll configure a text file that will point to the appropriate database-specific driver that comes shipped with the DataStage product. Then we'll change the ODBC Configuration file inside DataStage's Project directory of DataStage so that you can then use the newly created Data Source within your DataStage Project.
We'll then test our configuration by importing some Metadata into DataStage from the database. For the purposes of this tutorial it will be Oracle but the principles used will apply to other databases, such as SQL Server, as well. We'll perform the import by using the DataStage Manager client. During the tutorial, we will be using some UNIX however, this course is not designed to teach you UNIX.
Forkunnskaper
It is recommended that, prior to taking this course, you have the following knowledge:
- A familiarity with the DataStage Documentation entitled DataStage Installation and Upgrade Guide
- A basic understanding of or familiarity with DataStage, some UNIX helpful but not needed for the tutorial
- A working relationship with the DBA to find Host Name, Port Number, SID
- A basic understanding of client server architecture and networking.
Mål
By the end of this training you'll have an understanding of how to configure ODBC for DataStage on UNIX. We will walk through the steps needed to find and edit some configuration files as well as provide you with an overview of the components involved. You'll test the success of your configuration by using a DataStage client to import some metadata from the database that you have successfully linked up to (using ODBC). By the end of this online training, you should be able to do the following:
- Configure DataStage on UNIX to access a database using ODBC
- Describe the three components in DataStage that are involved
- Test your configuration by interacting with the database
Nøkkelemner
