After you receive confirmation that you are enrolled, you will be sent further instructions to access your course material and remote labs. You will then have a 30 day window in which to complete your course. Within this 30 days, the self-paced format gives you the opportunity to complete the course at your convenience, at any location, and at your own pace. The course is available 24 hours a day.
If the course requires a remote lab system, the lab system access is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. When you are not using the elab system, ensure that you suspend your elab to maximize your hours available to use the elab system.
NO EXTENSIONS FOR THIS COURSE WILL BE GRANTED.
Self-paced virtual courses provide the same deep technical content as our classroom courses, but allow you to learn on your own schedule. You can stop and start a Self-Paced Virtual class as needed during the 30-day access period.
There is no live instructor for this course, so it may not be appropriate for students who require the guidance of a live instructor.
This six-hour self-paced virtual course teaches students the skills they need to configure and monitor virtual systems and virtual applications that are deployed to private cloud environments using IBM Workload Deployer.
IBM Workload Deployer is the first hardware appliance of its kind. Preinstalled with WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition, it provides access to WebSphere Application Server virtual images and patterns so that application environments can be quickly created, securely deployed, and managed in a private cloud.
The course begins by introducing how IBM Workload Deployer can help organizations handle the business opportunities that cloud computing enables for the enterprise. Students also learn how IBM Workload Deployer and WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition address provisioning virtual systems and virtual applications into cloud environments.
The course then explains how to deploy, configure, and manage cloud environments with IBM Workload Deployer. Students learn how to create, deploy, and monitor virtual systems and virtual applications that are created from predefined patterns, as well as how to complete the initial physical and firmware configurations for IBM Workload Deployer. Students learn about the networking and storage requirements for implementing a VMware ESX cloud environment that is used by IBM Workload Deployer, and learn how to configure cloud resources such as hypervisors and IP groups. In addition, students learn resource management procedures for both virtual systems and IBM Workload Deployer.
In-depth product demonstrations throughout the course highlight the functionality of IBM Workload Deployer and provide additional insight into configuring and monitoring cloud resources, virtual systems, and virtual applications. Students learn how to configure product licenses on the appliance and how to configure Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) from the console. Students learn how to create patterns from disparate image parts and how to manage dynamic virtual machines from the console. Other demonstration topics include configuring the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance and cloud resources, creating virtual systems, creating virtual applications, managing resources, and using the command-line interface. Finally, students learn how to customize, clone, and deploy a pattern that is enabled by the Intelligent Management Pack.
