This advanced course focuses on using OMEGAMON XE on z/OS 4.1 to analyze performance and availability issues. The OMEGAMON II interface is also shown in examples, for solving problems that cannot be addressed with OMEGAMON XE.
Público alvo
This advanced course is for experienced operators, as well as system administrators and system programmers. You should be familiar with the Tivoli Enterprise Portal interface.
Pré-requisitos
You should be practiced in the subsystem being monitored. Also, you should be able to navigate the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. These skills are covered in course IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2 for Operators (TV282). The content of course TV282 is also included in course IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2 Operations and Administration (TV362).
Objetivos
Identify key z/OS problem areas that can be managed through OMEGAMON XE on z/OS
Describe the history of the OMEGAMON user interface and relate the XE desktop to the CUA and classic interfaces
Locate the key OMEGAMON XE on z/OS workspaces for sysplex and system monitoring
Describe the key monitored attributes at the sysplex and system levels
Locate and deploy the product-provided situations
Create a customized situation and deploy it to a managed system for monitoring
Describe the migration of OMEGAMON II for MVS threshold data to OMEGAMON XE on z/OS situations
Given scenarios, describe problem solving approaches using OMEGAMON XE on z/OS including:
- Sysplex issues and the coupling facility
- CPU consumption
- Performance bottlenecks in batch jobs, started tasks, and TSO users
- Resource utilization such as DASD and cache
- Utilization of common storage and page space
- Detect and resolve enqueue conflicts.
Detect and resolve excessive memory consumption by a batch job
Detect and resolve service class problems reported by the Work Load Manager
Detect and resolve structure problems in the z/OS coupling facility
Describe how OMEGAMON XE on z/OS integrates with an automation environment
Plan an implementation strategy for ensuring availability of business-critical computing resources
