Online Enrollment:
Before enrolling, review the Machine Requirements to be sure your system meets the minimum hardware requirements for this course. Within 48 hours after you enroll, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing: your online link, your ID and password, and additional instructions for starting the course. Start the course at any time. Once you start the course, you have 30 days to complete the program. You are billed for the course when you submit your enrollment form.
The course and the labs are available 24 hours a day, but they must be scheduled in advance, after you access the course on-line. The self-paced format gives you the opportunity to complete the course at your convenience, at any location, and at your own pace.
Learn to install, customize, and administer the AIX operating system in a multi-user environment using POWER (System p) systems through on-line reading assignments, multimedia presentations, interactive real-time chats with an instructor, quizzes with instructor feedback, and perform hands-on labs on a remote, live AIX machine.

Audience
This is an intermediate course for system administrators who are responsible for implementing and managing the AIX operating system on an IBM System p system.
Prerequisites
You should be able to:
- Log in to an AIX system and set a user password
- Execute basic AIX commands
- Manage files and directories
- Use the vi editor
- Use redirection, pipes, and tees
- Use the utilities find and grep
- Use the command and variable substitution
- Set and change Korn shell variables
- Write simple shell scripts
- These skills may be acquired by completing:
- AIX Basics (AU13G) or
- AIX Basics (self-paced virtual class) (AY13G)

Options:
For Flash multimedia presentations, the Flash plug-in is required. Typically, you are prompted to download upon encountering the presentation. If you are not, you may download the player from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
Access to simulations requires that the library files for the simulation be downloaded to your machine. Typically this will take only a few seconds.
Java Runtime Environments:
It is recommended that the 1.4.2_x Runtime supplied by Sun Microsystems be used. This runtime can be downloaded at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html for the particular operating system that is needed. Once the Runtime Environment is downloaded it is recommended that the currently installed Runtime Environment be uninstalled before the new Runtime Environment is installed.
