IBM and DC WASA Flow Technology into Washington DC's Water and Sewer System

IBM and the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA) are working together to modernize the management of the aging water and sewer infrastructure hidden beneath the nation's capital. The sprawling infrastructure includes hundreds of thousands of assets such as water distribution pipes, valves, public fire hydrants, collection pipes, man holes and water meters.

IBM today announced that it has signed a seven-year, 55 million Euro strategic outsourcing agreement with Samlink Ltd, a leading Finnish IT banking services provider. Under the agreement, IBM will manage Samlink's infrastructure services across its data center environment, enabling Samlink to focus on core infrastructure technology (IT) banking service activities while benefiting from new IBM services technologies.

Using the software, massive amounts of sensor data can be gathered in real-time, providing supply chain transparency and reducing inventory costs by as much as 40 percent.
