IBM MobileFirst

Mobile computing is at a turning point. This is now the second wave of the mobile revolution: the business of mobile. Just as the Internet transformed industries like banking, travel and healthcare – so too will mobile.

In fact, over the next three to five years, the most cutting edge advances in mobile will not be in device itself, but instead what is done with it.

IBM sees this opportunity beyond the device as the "mobile enterprise." Based on nearly 1,000 customer engagements, 10 mobile-related acquisitions in the last four years, a team of thousands of mobile experts and 270 patents in wireless innovations, IBM MobileFirst offers an array of solutions and services that helps businesses connect, secure, manage and develop mobile networks, infrastructures and applications.

New Augmented Reality App Gives In-Store Shoppers Instant Product Details and Promotions in the Palms of Their Hands

    Date added: 02 Jul 2012

At IBM Research headquarters in Yorktown Heights, NY, IBM’s Fiona Doherty demonstrates an augmented reality shopping app that automatically delivers personalized coupons, offers, customer reviews and hidden product details — such as whether packaging is biodegradable — to smart phones as consumers browse store shelves. The prototype app is designed to close the gap between the wealth of product information on the Internet and traditional retail promotions, transforming marketing offers from an intrusion into a convenient service welcomed by consumers.
