IBM Certified Specialist - Midrange Storage Sales V1
Job Role Description / Target Audience
This Midrange Storage Specialist identifies opportunities for business and generates/qualifies demand using a consultative approach. This specialist determines and effectively uses available tools and resources to determine and sell storage solutions that meet the customer needs and requirements.
The Midrange Storage Specialist has knowledge of the features, functions and benefits of IBM midrange storage solutions, and knowledge of competitive solutions. The IBM storage solutions included in this exam are: System Storage DS3500, System Storage DS5000, Storwize V7000 Unified, System Storage N series, LTO-5 Tape Products, Midrange Tape Systems, ProtecTIER Appliance, Real-time Compression Appliance, and SAN Volume Controller. Basic understanding and general knowledge of TIvoli Storage Productivity Center Select, Tivoli Storage Manager, and FlashCopy Manager is also recommended.
This specialist can perform the following tasks without assistance: gather customer requirements; determine basic product positioning across the entire IBM storage product portfolio, articulate features/benefits/fit of IBM midrange storage products to solve customer problems; know the competitive landscape for midrange storage products; identify and engage the correct resources (e.g.,technical support, customer demonstration facilities and online tools); understand the soft costs of a solution including TCO and ROI fundamentals; identify the warranty, installation and support options for a solution.
This specialist can perform the following tasks with assistance: develop the solution; present the configuration to the customer; mitigate competitors; be aware of the purpose and general capabilities of Disk Magic and Capacity Magic; be aware of the Solutions Assurance/Technical Delivery Assessment (TDA) process, and where to find specific information on TDA requirements for midrange products.
This specialist should be familiar with the following resources: eConfig; PartnerWorld web site; competitive sales tools such as the COMP database and CompeteCenter; IBM Briefing Centers; Techline/Partnerline; TCOnow!;
Recommended Prerequisite Skills
Minimum of 12 months practical experience selling in the midrange storage environment, and 6 months selling IBM midrange storage solutions
