Job Role Description / Target Audience
The Enterprise Storage Technical Specialist V3 consults with customers to analyze the customer's needs, select the correct products, architect the solution, and plan the implementation. This specialist also has a broad knowledge of the features, functions and benefits of IBM storage solutions and the IBM storage portfolio including disk, tape, storage management software, NAS, SAN and virtualization, as well as an understanding of competitive offerings used in the enterprise segment. This knowledge includes both current and commonly occurring products typically encountered. The specialist also requires general knowledge of IBM storage hardware and software solutions used outside the enterprise product set.
Enterprise Storage Products included in this exam are IBM System Storage DS8000, IBM XIV Storage System, IBM System Storage TS7700 Virtualizaiton Engine and enterprise tape libraries, IBM System Storage ProtecTIER Gateways and Appliances, IBM Scale Out Network Attached Storage (SONAS), IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller, and IBM enterprise SAN products.
This specialist can perform the following tasks without assistance: Determine product positioning, gather customer requirements, identify and engage correct resources, identify competitors, provide the technical details for a TCO analysis, present the IBM enterprise storage product line to the customer, articulate features and benefits of IBM storage products and maintenance, create a configuration based on customer requirements, develop basic technology topologies and architectural designs, present the configuration to the customer, conduct a TDA for enterprise storage, provide information for post-installation support.
This specialist can perform the following tasks with assistance: Respond to an RFP within the enterprise storage scope, mitigate competitors, complete detailed design of the total solution, conduct a TDA for IBM products outside the enterprise product set.
This specialist uses the following tools and resources: eConfig, Competeline, COMP database, Techline, PartnerLine, TCOnow!, PartnerWorld web site, sizing tools like Disk Magic. Capacity Magic.
Recommended Prerequisite Skills
Minimum 18 months of direct technical storage experience, with six months recommended experience with IBM designated enterprise storage products.
