Linux resources

IBM perceived Linux® as a game-changer. It turns out IBM was right. Linux is portable. It can run on everything from PDAs to mainframes and has been deployed across all of IBM's platforms. To help you take advantage of this opportunity, the IBM Innovation Centers offer a full range of resources to help build and test Linux applications onsite at our centers or remotely.

Remote architecture consultations
These consultations will help you confidently cast your solution in a Linux environment. They provide guidance for the distribution landscape, open source, and the best practices for developing and maintaining a Linux solution. You will get assistance to help make sure you leverage the scalability, portability and maintainability of Linux solutions.

Porting your application to Linux
Our centers are staffed with technical consultants to help you build and test your Linux applications. Linux workshops are also offered at no charge to help increase your skills and knowledge. Maximize your Linux investment by adding support for IBM System i, p and z products

Porting Intel-based Linux applications using Chiphopper
The IBM Systems Application Advantage™ for Linux (Chiphopper™) offering works with applications written to the Linux operating system, newer applications that are written directly to middleware, or both. You can support a single version of your existing Linux application on multiple IBM server platforms, dramatically increasing the customer reach and revenue potential from that application with a minimal increase in expense. The IBM Servers include IBM System i, p and z products, BladeCenter and OpenPower (line of Linux-based servers from IBM). You will also be authorized to use the Ready for IBM Systems with Linux Mark.

Virtual Loaner Program
Get secure, flexible, remote access to Red Hat and SUSE distributions as well as IBM System i, p, x and BladeCenters for your development activities. The save and restore function allows you to save user customized system images and reload them in subsequent reservations.

Support of Novell and Red Hat certifications
The IBM Innovation Centers collaborate with Novell and Red Hat to assist you in porting and optimizing your applications on their Linux distributions across all IBM systems to help you complete their certification requirements.

"We did great things in a very short amount of time. We never could have ported our application to as many platforms with such limited internal resources and in such a short amount of time without the IBM Innovation Center and its wonderful staff."
— Michael Kobar, chief technology officer, Lymeware Corporation
