Director, Strategy and Emerging Business
Welcome to the third Software as a Service newsletter of 2009.
We've been very busy working with you, our Business Partners, as you work to adopt SaaS and cloud computing into your business models. As you know, a new era is here. This emerging compute model—cloud computing—addresses the explosive growth of Internet-connected devices, and complements the increasing presence of technology in today's world. It is both a consumption and delivery model inspired by consumer Internet services.
Throughout the month of October IBM made many significant announcements around cloud computing, centered on two areas: IBM Smart Business Systems and IBM Smart Business Services. You can read about these announcements and more about what IBM is doing in this exciting area at ibm.com/ibm/cloud/.
Additionally, earlier this year we announced a relationship with Amazon Web Services (AWS) that allows access to many of our software products in an on-demand, hourly, pay as you go model. Last month we co-hosted our first virtual event with AWS to help you get started with IBM software on Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and had over 750 registrants from over 60 countries. With such response I'm pleased to share that we are focusing on delivering similar events for you next year—not just virtually, but hosted around the world through our IBM Innovation Centers where you'll be able to network in person with your peers and our local technology experts. In the meantime, please check out the materials from that event.
Enjoy the newsletter.
Sincerely,
