Overview
Entity Analytics Solutions Global Name Recognition technologies, part of the newly acquired Language Analysis Systems (LAS) products, address the specific needs and demands of managing, searching, scoring, and matching multicultural name data sets.
Entity Analytics Solutions Global Name Recognition, a set of best-of-breed name-recognition and name-scoring technologies, includes:
- Global Name Management V2.1
- Global Name Analytics V2.1
- Global Name Scoring V2.1
- Global Name Reference Encyclopedia V2.1
Entity Analytics Solutions Global Name Recognition technologies solve the complex problem of searching and managing data on individuals in a multicultural, error-prone world. The technologies can spot fraud and other threats. The software takes into account alternative spellings, cultural nuances, and other linguistic issues as part of an attempt to return the most relevant information for a search query, rather than a laundry list of close matches.
Name-recognition technology is used by international government and commercial clients, and
complements existing Entity Analytic Solutions, including technology acquired last year through the
purchase of identity resolution company SRD.

Description
Global Name Management V2.1
The Global Name Management bundle is a best-of-breed suite of name-recognition and name-scoring technologies designed to address the specific needs and demands of managing, searching, scoring, and matching multicultural name data sets. It consists of the complete analytic and scoring capabilities.
While most traditional name-recognition software is designed to manage and score data assets in westernized, romanized cultures, the Global Name Management bundle was designed using the unique knowledge base of Entity Analytics Solutions (EAS). This knowledge base consists of the global linguistic knowledge and expertise gained from 20 years of linguistic research and the analysis of nearly a billion names from across the world.
Working from this ever-expanding knowledge base, EAS has developed a suite of tools designed to meet the unique demands of managing data sets from cultures as diverse as Anglo/European, Arabic, Chinese, Hispanic, French, German, Indian, Korean, Pakistani, Russian/Slavic, Thai, Japanese, Western African cultures, and more.
Global Name Management leverages cultural-specific name data and builds rules associated with the names culture to perform the best matching, management, parsing, and scoring results. Global Name Management is an industry-leading technology that lets you search, recognize, and manage multicultural names, screen potential threats, and perform background checks across multiple geographies and cultures.
Global Name Analytics V2.1
The Global Name Analytics bundle is a stand-alone, best-of-breed suite of name-recognition technologies that addresses the specific needs and demands of managing multicultural name data sets. It provides cultural classification of a personal name, allowing greater accuracy when applying linguistic and statistical analysis on the names, including:
- Recognizing the gender
- Providing frequency information like the probability a name token is a masculine or feminine name
- Determining which name, of a given name combination, is likely to be the given name or surname
- Generating possible alternative romanized spellings for a name
Global Name Scoring V2.1
Global Name Scoring is a stand-alone bundle for clear text and phonology-oriented search and scoring of multicultural names in a database to provide the most likely variations. Names can be matched even if they are affected by typical spelling and cultural variations, related by sound but not by spelling, or damaged by spelling and typing errors. The vagueness and inexactness of transliteration and pronunciation can be overcome when working with the great variety of contrasting cultural naming patterns and styles of use around the globe.
Global Name Scoring improves the accuracy of name searching, transliteration, and the quality of identity verification initiatives by providing ranked search results, based on the linguistic, phonetic, and specific cultural variation patterns of names. It works from a knowledge base of information focused on the specific culture of a name and utilizes these rules associated with the names from that culture to perform the best matching and the best search results. Based on an industry-leading technology, it lets you search and recognize foreign names, screen potential threats, and perform background checks across multiple geographies and cultures.
Global Name Reference Encyclopedia V2.1
This interactive encyclopedia includes culture-specific information about names, their use, their meanings, and their patterns of spelling variations. It is a stand-alone offering that leverages a vast store of cultural and linguistic knowledge and was developed using detailed studies of nearly a billion names from every country in the world.
With this release, new cultural information is provided on Indian and Vietnamese names. In addition,
there is a new STC1-character look up capability for Chinese which allows you to access character
variants and dialects for Chinese by specifying just the STC character.

Technical information
Hardware requirements
Hardware requirements are specific to each product deployment and are generally proportional to:
- The total number of names to be processed
- The number of name-recognition transactions to be processed per unit of time
Software requirements
IBM Global Name Management, Global Name Analytics, and Global Name Scoring product bundles
Platforms
- Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 on x86
- Solaris 8 and 9
- Red Hat Linux AS on x86
- AIX 5L on POWER4 and POWER5
Database requirements: The product bundles require no database management software.
Compiler requirements The product bundles support API-level access using the following compilers:
- Windows/x86: Microsoft Visual Studio V6, Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003
- Sun Solaris: Sun Forte V6, Free Software Foundation gcc v3.2
- Linux/x86: Free Software Foundation gcc v3.2
- AIX®: Visual Age C++ V6
Planning
Performance and throughput for the name-recognition products are generally proportional to three key factors:
- Number of CPUs available
- Clock speed of the CPU used
- RAM resources
Applications involving the Global Name Analytics bundle will generally require somewhat fewer CPU cycles and RAM, while applications involving the Global Name Scoring products (NameHunter, MetaMatch) will require greater resources in number of CPUs, CPU cycles, and RAM.
Global Name Reference Encyclopedia (NRE)
The NRE is offered only for use on Intel® x86 processor platforms under Windows 2000 or Windows 2003. It requires both:
- Microsoft Internet Information Server (MS-IIS) V5.0, or later

Server
A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user and/or client devices over a network. A proof of entitlement (POE) must be obtained for each server on which the program or a component of the program is run or for each server managed by the program. Where 'blade' technology is employed, each 'blade' is considered a separate Server.
Authorized user
An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside Your enterprise. A proof of entitlement (POE) must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user POE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a POE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the Program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eServer® platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system. It is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM.
Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
