Before you begin your journey, you need to assess the maturity (or readiness) of your organization and business environment to move toward analytics. IBM offers a free Analytics Quick Assessment (AQA) to help your organization understand your starting point. The AQA is conducted at a fairly high level by an IBM Assessment Leader and includes business and technical subject matter experts from the organization being reviewed.
A full analytics assessment may involve many steps, but for the AQA, we have reduced this to a set of key steps that help to identify some opportunities for analytics near-term steps going forward. AQA will help identify key pain points and projects that could provide high returns on investment. It is also a good way for departments to get started with analytics by helping to identify a project that may be implemented quickly and provides significant return for a small investment of time and effort.
There are many reasons why an agency leader may consider an AQA:
- An AQA provides a short introduction to analytics strategy and implementation approach. This overview allows everyone participating in the session to start with a solid base level of knowledge on analytics.
- Through identification of the “as-is” and “to be” states of the organization, the key pain points are identified, allowing action plans to be created.
- The AQA is structured to allow discussion, encouraging pain points to be put on the table so they may be addressed in the larger context of business goals, existing processes and agency direction.
- Although the AQA is not as exhaustive as the Analytics Maturity Assessment Engagement (AMAE), it is very useful for identifying potential near-term projects and areas for future study.
- The assessment from the AQA provides key input to analytics engagements, including valuable input about priorities and key business areas needing focus.
