Navy League's Sea Air Space Exposition

Join IBM at the Navy League's Sea Air Space Exposition (link resides outside of ibm.com) to learn more about ways we can help the Navy drive down total cost of ownership.

Date: May 3-5, 2010
Place: Gaylord National Harbor, Maryland

Make plans to stop by the IBM booth to see the IBM solutions for the Navy which are explained below. For further information on IBM at the Navy League's Sea Air Space Exposition, please contact Betsy Kingston at betsykingston@us.ibm.com

Supply Chain Control Tower

IBM, consistently ranked in AMR's top supply chains, was one of the earliest adopters of global sourcing/supply chain model leveraging partnerships for cost and execution efficiencies. IBM had to innovate to support the new business model on a collaborative IT platform which is internally referred to as the Supply Chain Control Tower. The Supply Chain Control Tower is a set of capabilities 'solutioned' to integrate, orchestrate and optimize the extended supply chain in order to have end-to-end visibility, coordination, and control. In a nutshell, the solution automated processes with appropriate alerting and escalation of alerts along with integrated decision support to deliver sense, analyze, and respond capabilities for key supply chain processes.

Trident Warrior 2010

The annual Trident Warrior exercise is led by the Naval Network Warfare Command with technical and lab support from SPAWAR Pacific and Naval Post Graduate School. These technology experiments are conducted each summer and utilize at-sea operational forces. New this year, the winter lab experiments are designed to validate advanced technology concepts in preparation for potential fleet experimentation.

In November 2009, IBM technology successfully completed the lab experiments in two areas: Computer Network Defense (CND) and Cross Domain Secure Information Sharing (CDS). A third TW10 experiment focused on Network Operations, (NETOPS) an ITIL V3 based service management capability is being prepped for direct fleet summer time experimentation without the winter validation testing. The yearlong effort culminates in a formal Military Utility Assessment Report which is circulated with Program Managers and sent up the chain of command to senior Navy leadership.

Triton (SOA foundation/Datalinks)

The IBM Government NCO Framework provides a military-grade platform and architecture for transformation, interoperability, and integration in defense and public safety. The IBM SOA Foundation/Triton for NCO contains pre-integrated products and tooling coupled with defense-specific configurations to ensure a fast and low risk start to establishing a flexible, agile mission oriented enterprise platform. The NCO Framework addresses three solution areas: Command & Control, Logistics, and Intelligence.

IBM has applied the SOA Foundation and messaging technology to facilitate interoperability between platforms that have tactical data link (TDL) legacy systems and platforms or sites that are TCP/IP-enabled. This approach provides TDL interoperability to improve decision making and mission performance.

Smarter Bases

IBM believes that smarter systems can and will make a meaningful difference to the prosperity of the global economy, the sustainability of our planet and the health of global society. We also believe that IBM is uniquely positioned to help - thanks to our depth of resources, expertise and experience. We can help provide enterprises, institutions and governments of all sizes around the world with the tools and thinking necessary to build a planet of smarter systems. The future now beckoning to us is one of enormous promise.

Cloud Computing

Driven by trends in the consumer Internet, cloud computing is a new way to consume and deliver IT services. It builds on the maturation of the Web, combining rapid scalability, proliferation of the Internet, unprecedented self-service and elegant Web-based applications. It allows users to execute complex computing tasks without the need to understand the underlying technology.

IBM BladeCenter

Tracewell Rugged Blade System

IBM is the unrivaled leader in providing COTS-based solutions to Department of Defense agencies. IBM BladeCenter offers an unparalleled platform that delivers high-performance computing with an incredible performance to cost ratio. To date, IBM BladeCenter is the standard platform of choice for a wide range of DOD programs. The Tracewell Rugged Blade System enables DOD strategy and technology planners to extend their investment in BladeCenter by making it possible to forward deploy blade server solutions based on IBM technology in a form factor that meets mil-spec requirements for use in harsh or unusual environments, including in the air, on land and at sea.
