Driving the Virtuous Circle
An Information Age Partnership (IAP) report, published by the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR)
ICT is pervasive. It touches nearly every aspect of economic and human activity. This has two consequences. Firstly, the carbon footprint of ICT is substantial and so it has to be tightly managed. Secondly, ICT itself can be a powerful enabler and transformer of carbon reduction throughout the rest of any organisation's carbon footprint. The more carbon efficient ICT is, the more effective it becomes as an enabler. This is the virtuous circle of carbon management.
This report makes a number of recommendations for leaders of private and public sector organisations about the greening of ICT and the role of ICT as an enabler of carbon reduction. Its purpose is to encourage industry and government leaders to act to build ‘carbon effectiveness’ into the strategies and business model of their organisations.
