Spotlight on IBM SmartCamp
SmartCamp is an exclusive event aimed at identifying early stage entrepreneurs who are developing business ventures that align with our IBM Smarter Planet vision. These mentoring and networking events put entrepreneurs in touch with investment firms, serial entrepreneurs, academics, marketing, communications, and technology experts that can help accelerate the solutions of startup companies to market.
In 2010, IBM held eight SmartCamps around the world and crowned nine start-up companies. Last November, IBM held its first annual SmartCamp World Finals in Dublin, Ireland where San Francisco-based start-up, Streetline (Link resides outside of ibm.com), was announced as the IBM Global Entrepreneur of the Year and winner of the 2010 SmartCamp. On April 27th, IBM held its first 2011 SmartCamp event in Bangalore, India and announced ConnectM as its first SmartCamp winner.

Congratulations to ConnectM (Link resides outside of ibm.com), the winner of SmartCamp Bangalore! ConnectM’s solution collects data remotely and uses domain specific analytics to deliver actionable business intelligence. The solution provides remote asset management for optimizing overall equipment efficiency and reducing operating costs. ConnectM was chosen as the winner for its Smarter Energy Concept.

Streetline was launched in 2007 by a team of five entrepreneurs; in 2010, the company was named IBM's Global Entrepreneur of the Year. IBM (IBM, Fortune 500) executives were impressed by the potential of real-time parking data to help cities to solve major problems, says Claudia Fan Munce, the managing director of IBM's venture capital group in Silicon Valley.
