IBM Grid Medical Archive Solution designed to provide storage optimization with multi-site availability to patient diagnostic images
Healthcare providers today must manage a staggering volume of film images and documents to support more efficient diagnosis for radiology, cardiology, pathology and other disciplines. To address this need, many providers have digitized these files and manage them through picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). While this digitization provides valuable information for clinicians, it also poses significant challenges for IT managers.
Today, IBM offers a Grid-enabled Medical Archive Solution (GMAS) that allows multi-campus hospitals and imaging centers to link geographically disparate sites—and modalities—together, helping optimize storage utilization and eliminate redundancy. IBM GMAS brings together shared pools of storage via the deployment of intelligent grid software. The Bycast StorageGRID software creates a “virtual” medical imaging archive that pools distributed storage yet does not require the consolidation of physical images.
