Solution overview

The DataCom Digital Video solution offers customers the opportunity to operate and control all security functions through an easy-to-use graphical user interface. DataCom also offers 24/7 telephone support, four-hour on-site service, and hot swappable components. All features can be accessed and managed through local, client or remote access. This allows any customer to consolidate and centralize security resources and personnel to dynamic Network Operation Centers.

At the core of the DataCom security network are server-based Network Video Servers (NVSs). All components operate within a 64 bit platform for maximum performance and stability. The flexibility and open platform of the DataCom solution allows integration into the IBM System x tower, rack or IBM BladeCenter servers.

Security surveillance is critical in the field of law enforcement. After the new Washington County Sheriff's Department and 710-bed detention facility were constructed, it was critical that the video be stored and managed for a much longer period than traditional looped video tape.

Fortunately, DataCom's partnership with IBM provides a solution using the BladeCenter and storage array that was just what the customer required. The BladeCenter's integrated iSCSI switch allows a single connection from the chassis to the storage device, making cabling much simpler. With IBM Director, managing the blade servers is much easier than managing individual digital video recorders (DVRs).

In addition, the ease of use allows the operators to control and configure all cameras individually or universally for the whole system.
