Due to the industry's thin margins and budget constraints, Wallace Hardware needed to move the primarily custom-written production workload to faster equipment and move development from AIX to Linux over time, possibly requiring multiple platforms.
InfoSystems recommended the IBM System p5 Model 55A Express. With its partitioning and virtualization support, it was the answer in a single computing platform, eliminating the need for different machines to run Linux and AIX. It also provided a single platform for both production and development environments. Additionally, everything is integrated with internal storage and controlled by the hardware management console. The new 55A Express eliminated the need for purchasing duplicate hardware for production and test, and provided an integrated platform to migrate to Linux over time.
