AMR Research: Industrial supply chains: Developing talent and improving business processes go hand in hand
A recent study by AMR Research commissioned by the Supply Chain Council identifies the potential talent gaps industrial-driven organizations will need to address as they look to 2010. The study showed a lack of sufficient and trained supply chain talent. Industry or academia alone cannot solve the issue of establishing the functional standards or creating key cross-university partnerships focused on teaching critical supply chain skills. The top four talent gaps align with the processes organizations struggle to get right.
- Sourcing is not treated as a strategic process
- Initiatives fail if they don’t take into account the different supply chains within a business
- High performance delivery suffers when functions are sub-optimized within silos
- New product launches fail if internal and external processes and parties aren’t aligned
How is your company prepared to close these gaps, and what are the common barriers to success?
