2009 Top 10 business drivers, strategic responses, and IT initiatives in retail banking

Each year, TowerGroup's retail banking research team, like the teams in each area of financial services research at TowerGroup, ponders the coming year and issues a report forecasting the critical issues that institutions will face over the course of the next 12 months. They also compile a list of the strategic responses that they believe bankers will employ in 2009. Finally, they catalog the technology initiatives that retail banks will be pursuing next year. The business drivers are the factors in the industry or the broader business environment that either impact the institution or provide opportunity for business expansion. The strategic responses identify the business priorities or initiatives designed to take advantage of those drivers. The technology initiatives identify the key areas of focus for enhancements to infrastructure and tools to support the business initiatives.
